STUDIO NOTES:
West Palm Beach, Florida –
G-Star Studios announces the construction of the largest state-of-the-art motion picture sound stage in south Florida to be completed in the Fall of 2009. Over twenty feature films have been produced at the G-Star Studios since its inception four years ago. Producers such as Jonathan Krane (two billion dollars in box office, Face/Off, Swordfish, Look Who’s Talking trilogy), Bobby Moresco (four Academy Awards - Co-Producer and Co-Writer of CRASH and Million Dollar Baby), and Director Susan Seidelman (Desperately Seeking Susan, Sex and the City) have all produced films at the G-Star Studios. Abercrombie & Fitch just completed a major national magazine & catalog still photography shoot with 23 models and one of the most famous fashion photographers in the world, Bruce Weber. Academy Award winning Executive Producer, Beau Rogers (Gods and Monsters, plus 41 films) has two features in development slated for production at the G-Star Studios.
Recently over 600 filmmakers and industry professionals from Florida, LA and New York attended a celebration announcing the new sound stage that was sponsored by the Palm Beach County Film & Television Commission and the Palm Beach International Film Festival. "G-Star Studios IS one of Florida's greatest film incentives," states Film Commissioner Chuck Elderd. "In addition to the State incentive, G-Star Studios, with its attractive incentives for no cost, will only gain in popularity as one of Florida’s most sought-after incentives. It is a true savings to the bottom line of every production that has used G-Star and has had an excellent experience while being there.” Joe Reilly, LA Producer of the Dylan & Cole Sprouse feature films (they are the stars of Disney’s The Suite Life of Zack & Cody) was initially skeptical. “G-Star had a write up in Variety,” says Reilly. “I had very little faith in what it was represented to be. Then, when it proved to be so much more, I thought it couldn’t be real.” Joe produced the Spouse Twins movie at the G-Star Studios. He is returning for their next feature film in January with Bobby Moresco directing.
“We offer our Studios and amenities for no charge to filmmakers,” states Greg Hauptner, the G-Star Studios founder and CEO. “Originally, our Studio was set up to cater to independent films budgeted up to ten million dollars. Our new sound stage is equal in size to the LA sound stages that have had films such as Jurassic Park III, The Hulk, Bruce Almighty, and the current TV shows Desperate Housewives and Two and One-Half Men, produced on them.” The new sound stage will be added to the G-Star Studio's already existing 93,000 sq. ft. in ten buildings on property that is almost a mile long. The Studio's back lot contains a variety of props including a WWII DC-3 airplane, a WWII P-47 fighter plane, a 1978 American LaFrance fire engine (17 tons, 35 feet long), picture vehicles, production vehicles & trailers, SDMO R 75 generator with dual axle trailer, lighting and grip package, a 20' Mako boat with 200 hp Yamaha engine for location scouting and water shots, 20,000 sq. ft. warehouse, and much more.
Generator
G-Star Studios has acquired an SDMO R 75 (500 amp) generator with a SDMO dual axle trailer for location shoots. This quiet, diesel powered portable generator is available to filmmakers for no charge.
Lighting & Grip Package, Camera
G-Star Studios now has a lighting & grip package for filmmakers to use. In addition, also for no charge, we have an Arriflex BL II 16 mm camera. Please click on Details above and scroll to the bottom of the page for the equipment information.
South Florida's largest motion picture sound stage
The G-Star Studios announces plans to build the largest motion picture sound stage south of Orlando in West Palm Beach. G-Star has purchased the property next to the Studios to build a 45’ high X 80’ X 120’ (35' to the grid) state-of-the-art sound stage. The plans include production trailers and portable power. Next to the sound stage is a nine room shooting house already owned by the Studios. The addition of the new sound stage will give G-Star Studios over 100,000 sq. ft. of film production space and will allow the Studios to accommodate feature films with budgets in the $20 million to $50 million range. The sound stage will be part of the G-Star Studios incentive package free to filmmakers.
De Planes, Boss! De Planes!
G-Star Studios announces the acquisition of two World War II props for its back lot: a P-47 Thunderbolt fighter airplane replica (5.5 tons, 36' length, 41' wing span) and an original Douglas C-47 (also known as a DC-3) paratrooper/cargo plane (11 tons, 65' length, 95' wing span). Both planes are historic icons of the D-Day invasion. Please click on G-Star Studios Photo Gallery to view the planes.
De Boat, Boss! De boat!
OK. Now we’re over doing it. However, G-Star Studios has acquired a 20’ Mako center-console boat powered by a 200 horsepower Yamaha engine with trailer pulled by a 4-wheel drive Lexus SUV. The boat is used for locations scouting and water shoots. Palm Beach County has 47 miles of river/lake/ocean waterways with the Inter-Coastal Waterway, plus hundreds of small lakes (all without alligators!). Palm Beach County is also home to the largest fresh water lake in the nation, Lake Okeechobee.
